VerifiedHi, I am Canuck and i am here to provide you excellent service. If the water is getting hotter than it should it is a symptom of a faulty gas valve delivering too much fuel. Unfortunately this is not a do it yourself project. A qualified technician would be needed to replace it. It wouldn't be a bad idea to contact the manufacturer to inquire if it would be a warranty issue. I don't foresee there being an issue running the heater as is until then. There is safety mechanisms in the heater that will shut it down and display an error code if it needs to shut down. The extra pressure may have had something to do with it it's hard to tell. They do fail from time to time.
