That is the ignition lockout on that model. If you take the front case off and look through the little window can you see any flame at all?

the pilot light is off
and it makes a humming sound.
do i def need to take the front off?

Yes. We need to know if the fan is running or it is coming from the pump.

Two screws underneath (one on each corner) and then it lifts off, although there may be a single clip on the top also.

there were two screws on top too
also had to take cabinet apart to get to it.
however, mission accomplished!

Great. When it starts, where is the noise coming from? It is quite safe with the cover off as long as you keep your fingers out.

some kind of fan starts spinning up
on left side.
also water sounds like flowing and streaming into bucket.
low wallowing thunder sound.

any thoughts oh wise one?

At the top where the little window is, is there any sign of a flame? How long before the light starts flashing?

i can't see no little window, or any sign of a flame.
but since I'm looking everywhere when it tries to spin up and when the pilot indicator light comes on,
i assume there's no flame.

the boiler desperately tries to come on, and it cycles through 3-4 attempts
before the flashing starts and the fan spins up hard before dying down again.

Is there no small window at the top of the heat exchanger where the ignition electrode goes to the spark plug type ignitor?

had a look on this diagram to find the top of the heat exchanger and the electrodes.
but no window.

Ok, the model you have has no window and a circular heat exchanger. It might work if you could clean the ignition electrodes, but we may have reached the point where we will need a professional in to service and/or repair it.
