I have a Worcester Bosch...

I have a Worcester Bosch combi boiler that, I believe, has overheated when it automatically came on this morning with not enough water due to the freezing temperatures. I've tried to push the reset button on the top of the boiler, but can't get any movement in it to reset it. I've tried some WD40. Any suggestions before I pay for someone to come and look at it?

It's a 24i, installed around 2005.

If there is no click then it has not overheated, or it is faulty. Are you getting any lights or sounds?

Electrical supply is fine, timer motor running. Water moving okay and bar pressure at 2.5.

Does the fan start up? Is there any difference between hot water and heating?

Sounds like fan starts, no difference if I try to trigger from central heating or hot water.

GC No.(NNN) NNN-NNNN If the fan starts are you getting any blue flashing lights on the front?

No blue lights. Only front panel light is the power supply (red), then there's the radiator temperature control and the manual timer.

OK G20 is the type of gas (natural) and(NNN) NNN-NNNNis the GC no. Does the boiler go any further if you hold in the overheat thermostat?

Is the overheat thermostat the button on the top that I've tried to press? I can't see that there's anything else to "hold" in. It might just be me!

Yes. If there is no click then it hasn't popped out. This boiler has an air pressure switch that tells the pcb that the fan is running. We are getting to the point where we need the front cover off and also the inner combustion chamber cover. I hope your fingers are not too cold yet.

Not frozen yet - fortunately have electric underfloor heating and emergency fan heaters from a friend. Otherwise the kids might be iceblocks by morning!
Front cover (i.e. loose one that just slides off) is already off. "Inner combustion chamber", frankly, scares me. What's my next move?

If you turn it on can you check the fan is spinning. If it is then turn off the power again and let me know.

With combustion chamber cover off I can hear what I think is the fan and feel and air-flow, but can't see anything that I recognise as a fan moving.

No it isn't. Moves about 1/2 inch clockwise then stops.

OK, turn it off before it burns out. Give the spindle a good spray with WD40 and the try and spin it for a good 10 minutes to free it off. Try the power again and see if it will keep you going until you replace it on Monday.
