Nissan/micra micra If a nissan micra has a timing chain fault,

Customer Question

If a nissan micra has a timing chain fault, how much would it cost

there's a couple of scenarios;
either the chain has strecthed without the valves hitting pistons in which case its a case of timing cover off, new chain and replacement tensioners, oil change and you're on your way - about 5 hours labour and £120 worth of parts

if the valves have hit the pistons then the cylinder head will have to come off to replace valves and inpsect for other damage this will add another days labour and abour £300 to the bill

what would be the cause of this fault
Expert:  Matt replied 6 years ago.

the K12 micra has issues with timing chains as the standard parts are rather weak, the situation isn't helped by a long oil change interval

if you change the oil at 6K and use a high quality snythetic oil this certainly helps
