I am an executor to my late mother. To keep my family

Customer Question

I am an executor to my late mother. To keep my family updated I kept an on-line public blog. On this blog I published my findings which were factual. However, some family members who had taken money from my mother's account without power of attorney, were mentioned by name. Is that a criminal offence? I only gave their full name, no other personal details. They have reported me to the police for harassment.

Is this just one incident?

Thank you for your question

It is unlikely to be harassment if you have only mentioned them once.

However it is unwise to make such public statements as you do run the risk of an action for Defamation of Character and I suggest that you limit the blog to financial information only

The blog is extensive and has about 50 entries. just wondered if it was a criminal act Clare.

If you have mentioned them more than once then it could amount to harassment

OK thanks Clare, I have.

I suggest that you remove those posts or close the blog - that will ensure no further action is likely to be taken
