Hi, I bought a residential property ( buy to let) . This was a scam and when I contacted the solicitor to collect the keys on completion the vendors solicitors have vanished and subsequently our solicitors business was closed down. It was investigated by the detectives and the culprits were caught. We lost over £ 2000 in stamp duty , solicitor fees etc. How do we go about claiming the money back? Are we also able to claim any compensation?
What is your total loss please?

Total loss is £2000.

So have you actually purchase the property?
Has the registered title been registered in your name?
I'm a little confused how a sale could be arranged (presumably through estate agents) and it could proceed to "completion" without any of the parties (you, the seller, the seller's solicitors, the agent) becoming aware that your solicitor was a fraud.
Could you provide a few more details please..
