Who told you that you were insured?
You may or may not be reported for no insurance.
The Police have 6 months to charge for that.
As for the insurance if you were indeed not insured you would be personally liable for all costs, repairs and personal injury claims.
If he told you that you were insured then if you were claimed against you could have a counter claim against the employer.
You relied upon his representations in that you were insured and that representation caused you to drive.
Another view could be that although you were not being paid that you were in the employment carrying out business as he asked you to return the vehicle.
Therefore as such the employer will be vicariously liable for any costs incurred from the incident.
Either way you will have a claim against them.
