Can a solicitor hold your file if you dissmiss them if you owe an invoice that has 30 days
credit and is not due till 6th July 2011 for payment.

Yes, that's correct - a solicitor has a lien on the file until such time as their fees are settled by the client. Once settled they must release the file. The time remaining on the invoice is irrelevant, the fees are outstanding.
