The Duty Solicitor scheme was set upto ensure that a prisoner's right to receove legal advice and representation was more readily capable of being satisfied.
Although the DS may well be a prisoner's first contact with a solicitor, he is by no means obliged to retain the services of that solicitor and may chose to represented by any solicitor of his choice, although if he is above the age of 18yrs he must arrange this himself.

What you get with a DS is very hit and miss and if he has no confidence in her, then it's no good.
There are a couple of very good specialist motoring solicitors in the Manchester area and that sort of representation can really be worth its weight in gold but if your son feels
that he would prefer a local man, it's up to you to discuss it with him and reach a decision.
