Can you please remove the power to the recorder (so unplug it from the power socket).
Then wait 10 minutes, connect the power again to the unit, turn it on and tell me please if it is now operating correctly.
Let me know the results please

I am asking you please to leave it unplugged for 10 minutes.

Do you have a smart phone with you that has a camera?
ok, it would have been a way to check if the remote is actually working.
How about a digital camera? So not a phone but a digital camera?
ok, but in response to having a digital camera at all?
ok, turn it on and point it at the end of the remote (where the little bulb is)
With the camera you will see the infrared light on the remote working.
You will see it via the camera
Ok, well, if it returns let me know here Tony, Ill leave this question open in case.
It looks like the remote might be failing, possibly a loose connection so just in case, let me know if it returns
