Bob My 2011 1.4 petrol Fiesta (zetec auto) engine has a very noticeable tapping sound (at half engine speed) which to me

Ok does the vehicle have a lumpy unstable idle

Does the vehicle missfire or hesitate on acceleration

Is is the tapping noise worse when cold

Ok this tapping noise is commonly just an injector noise

We see a lot of the 1.25&1.4 zetecs booked in for a noise from engine

we compare the customers car to a brand knew one and found the tapping noise to be from the injector solenoid

I have had a handful of vehicles where by the valve clearances have needed adjusted due to a rattle from camshaft area but this was on earlier zetecs ie2006-2008 models

I haven't seen or heard of anyone adjusting later models valve clearances for a noise

If you require the measurements to check the clearances I can provide them for you but in my experience(obviously I cannot road test the vehicle ) it will be the injector solenoids (this is normal for model )(design intent )
