Ford Smax 2.0 Titanium diesel showed a 'Power Steering

Customer Question

Hi - Ford Smax 2.0 Titanium diesel showed a 'Power Steering Malfunction' warning suddenly and unexpectedly one morning - steering was/is very heavy. I called out the AA who fixed it temporarily by changing the fuse and it was fine during the test drive. Next day, same problem and it continues to blow fuses. No previous problems but the car had new steering rack boot fitted a couple of weeks ago - is it possible that something during this work has created the issue (possibly a short in the electrical system)?

Hi. When working on the rack it is recommended by Ford do remove power from the rack first as internal problems can occur with the electrical system. This is possible as to what happened with your vehicle. If the fuse keeps blowing, then the rack will need to be replaced. There also may be diagnostic codes in the vehicles steering module which may be worth checking.
