2007 lexus is220d, power loss yesterday of maybe 30%. Ran some diesel injector cleaner in it and cleaned out the egr but no change. Driving hard trying to clear it i flatshifted 1st to 2nd and has lost all but like 10% of power after that. No codes and no engine light. I just pulled positive terminal on the battery for like 5 minutes but no change. Thinking something in the drive by wire system didnt like flatshifting. I did do it a few times before. Incidentally the noght before i noticed the initial power loss.

The model was not sold in the usa however id say the drive by wire system is much the same. There is a throttle body on the diesel. It has to think theres a fault with the pedal or something?

these engines can have issues with the seperate 5th injector on the back of the cylinder head, its used to help with emissions and also increases power

so 1st thing is to try a bottle of injector cleaner in the tank and if that doens't help then this could be a lack of fuel pressure from the electrical pump at the tank.

If the connections to this are corroded or damaged then the pump could stop at any time or could not be running at full speed. Check that its relay switches in and out and the relay contacts are clean and bright – replace the relay if in any doubt and do the same for the fuse,
Ideally measure the pressure at the inlet to the main engine fuel pump and if this is low check the pump as described and also consider changing the fuel filter as if this partially blocked this too will reduce pressure.

If both of these are OK then also check the connections to the EGR valve, if either the vacuum pipe of electrical connection are damaged / corroded then the EGR can be on all time which certainly will hurt performance. Its also possible that its a fault with the EGR valve so its worth removing the valve and cleaning it out with brake cleaner, if it looks particularly clogged then replace it.

If this is OK then check the small vacuum lines to the turbo and its connected control solenoid on the bulkhead, any cracks or leaks can give turbo issues and its best to have the boost pressure measured actually measured with a boost gauge to check that the turbo is healthy and that the sensor is reading correctly

If its a variable vane turbo (they’ll be an actuator on the turbo body - but not a wastegate) then check its vacuum pipework as above and check the connections to the diaphragm / solenoid valve

Also worth checking that the glow-plug relay is switching off as they can stick on and leave the glow plugs also on - on some cars this can force it into limp home

Also worth considering adding a bottle of injector cleaner into the tank as a clogged injector nozzle will reduce power and give poor combustion - the next stage on from this is to remove all the injectors and have them ultrasonically cleaned and flow checked

Also check all the high pressure hoses post turbo/s for any split hoses or cracked metal pipes, also check the ends of the intercooler as its not unheard of to pop the end caps off under high boost

Doubt it is any of the above. Cleaned the egr earlier when it was about 20-30% loss of power as well as running injector cleaner through it. The 5th injector is for the dpf which has been gutted and there is a dpf emulator installed. The problem has to be in the drive by wire system. All sounds and runs as normal just no power at all now since i flatshifted 1st to 2nd earlier while driving hard to see if that in conjunction with cleaned egr and injector cleaner would cure the 20ish percent loss. Instead the instant i flatshifted into 2nd it lost all but like 5% power. No codes or pending faults etc. Currently uploading a vid to youtube with my foot on the floor in 2nd, 3rd and then 1st.

I may need a lexus specific tech with background in the ecu/drive by wire system. Im no spring chicken with cars myself and have only ever been on here once before some years ago. Wuen i come here its usually a real stumper...

you coudl try mesuring the resistnace of the pedal as there should be a rising and falling resistance signals as the pedal is pushed open

Pedal was working fine. Earlier via one of my obd tools i saw pedal travel being registered though it only peaked at 70% and so did the throttle body. I havent checked that since it got worse though. It does seem to be somehow related to flatshifting as too much of a coincidence for it to lose more power instantly after a flatshift from 1st to 2nd (shifting with accelerator kept on the floor). Here is a video of how its driving now with like no power. My foot is on the floor in 2nd then 3rd and then in 1st after turning a corner. Found the problem... Sensor behindthe egr valve somehow managed to pop the vacuum line off. Noticed this morning and reconnected it and all is fine. Thanks anyway guys.
