I have a Volvo S60 2.4T on 02 plate and have just had cam

Customer Question

Hi andy,
I have a Volvo S60 2.4T on 02 plate and have just had cam belt and water pump changed.
I am now getting an engine warning light coming on with an error code ECM-643A. The car is running fine.
Any ideas on what this is
Thanks
tony

I forgot to mention that i have deleted the error message and then took it for a spin. Light never came on until i turned the engine off and then back on again

Hello Tony

this code points to an error in cam timing

as its generated when the correlation between the exhaust camshaft sprocket and crankshaft have gone out so far that the control module cannot adjust the adaption anymore

so the cam timing needs to be re-done with the correct special tool to lock up the VVT sprocket in the correct place

Hi Matt
Thanks for your response.
Would this be the reason as to why it seems like i am using more fuel then normal

Hello Tony
That's correct
You would also be down on power
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
hi
power actually seems to be fine, as a matter actually better then before the belt change. very strange I know
Expert:  Matt replied 2 years ago.

hello

if the cam timing is too far advanced then you might pick up top-end power but the torque curve won't be as good

it might feel better as it comes on cam but overall the car will be slower

its difficult to check this without putting the car on a rolling road though
