Prado: The brakes on my 2001 Toyota Prado suddenly stopped

Customer Question

The brakes on my 2001 Toyota Prado suddenly stopped working properly. Local Toyota dealer (here in South Africa) says I need new Vacuum Pump Assembly, Brake Booster Assembly and Gasket. Parts and labour ZAR17,202 including VAT. That's a lot of money for me right now. Is this really necessary?

Hello, welcome and thank you for using Justanswer.

What did really happen with your brakes ,did the pedal went down to the floor?

Is the pedal hard, when you stepping on it ?

Is it soft and low ?

Let me know ,i can not help on the cost because i am not from South Africa.

If this is really what you need ,you can always go to an independent shop ,they are definitely cheaper (labor) than the dealer.

let me know.

thank you.
