CL500: i-phone 3gs to the new os 4.0 software, my phone now just loads…

I have a CL500 late...
I have a CL500 late 2007 (new shape). I have a hands-free i-phone 3gs bluetooth cradle which has previously successfully enabled me to import my full contacts list (names first + phone numbers to the COMAND system. Having just ugraded the i-phone 3gs to the new OS 4.0 software, my phone now just loads a list of numbers (including international codes) into Comand and effectively has rendered my ability to dial hands free useless. I have tried resetting the COMAND software, deauthorising and re-pairing the i-phone to the COMAND system and to the bluetooth cradle but everytime I just end up with a list of (almost)useless telephone numbers. Can you help?

This sounds like a software compatibility issue with the latest 4.0 software - I remember a similar issue a year or so ago when apple release an update & I had an influx of customers with iphones that would not download the address book.

 

Sadly we had to wait for apple to bring out another update before the issue could be resolved.

 

The only thing you could try is taking your car to your dealer for them to update the software in your CL - Mercedes is constantly updating the software & may have pre-empted this upgrade if apple has given them any information!

 

Otherwise I suspect you may have to wait for apple to bring another 4.x update out.

 

I would still log this issue with your dealer as they can then escalate the issue with Mercedes Technical who can pass on the problem to let apple know.

 

I am sure yours is not the only issue but as the software has only come out today I will probably be seeing some issues myself!

I'm already aware this is a software compatibility issue.

 

I was rather hoping to get a rather more useful answer than this. Frankly I've not found Mercedes dealers particularly helpful when it comes to pairing the i-phone with their cars, and their general lack of knowledge about the COMAND bluetooth system particularly in the North London area is pretty appalling. Do you know anyone at any of half dozen or so dealers between St John's Wood and Beaconsfield who has some expert technical understanding of this problem? When I bought the i-phone cradle about a year ago I couldn't find anyone at Mercedes who knew whether it would work or not. I bought it based on the expert knowledge of a friend who assured me it would work and it did, but I had to follow my friend's instructions.

Sorry - I didnt mean to state the obvious but was just highlighting the fact that I had the exact same problem with the iphone a while back with an update from apple - as it was an apple issue there was nothing we could do to resolve the problem (as frustrating as that was for both us and our customers).

 

I dont know of any specific dealers in North London that I could recommend I'm afraid - I'm in an independent Mercedes Workshop in Canterbury, Kent - but suspect that may be a little far for you to travel.

 

I know many dealers do appear to care little but that is not always the case! Running a software upgrade on the COMAND & phone systems should be well within the ability of any dealer & this is the only thing I could suggest.

 

The problem is, if it is an apple issue & the latest software from Mercedes does not cure the problem then it will be down to apple to release a fix as they did last time this happened!

 

If I can find out any more information from Mercedes I will let you know.
