Hi there hope i can be of assistance.

If this was carried out by an authorised BMW workshop then this shouldnt be a problem. Also with the age of the vehicle this will of been completed under warranty meaning alsmot every nut/bolts/gasket in the bottom end of the engine will of been replaced.

If you are concerned, contact the workshop who carried out the work, and ask for an explanation as to why the crankshaft was replaced. This is usually down to driver error, i.e not checking the oil level regularly.

Thanks Bob

Ok that's good to know. It was done by a 'Bosch' service centre I can see on the log book stamp but I can't quite make out their number. I was just a bit suspicious that the car is being sold straight away after the crankshaft is replaced.

So you wouldn't be too concerned of engine damage or anything irrepairable?
UK Auto Mechanic: Bob, UK Car Mechanic replied 8 years ago

I would certanly find out why the crankshaft was replaced before parting with any money.

This is to ensure that this hasnt been a 'problem' vehicle, meaning they have done the minimum to get the car away from there workshop and sell it on.

But if there is a genuine reason for repair, i.e been ran low on oil and repaired in detail, then there should be little worries.

If you do purchase the vehicle, consider an extended warranty also.

Thanks bob
