Renault: diagnostic..the flywheel sensor was faulty..stall

Customer Question

Talked to 350matt about my renault Clio 172 cup which is miss firing and then stalling . Had a diagnostic done today and a fault came up sayiing that the flywheel sensor was faulty. How could a broken sensor make the car miss and stall??

This is very common issue on Clio's..the Flywheel sensor or TDC sensor can't pick up a pulse signal from the flywheel..On occassion you may find that the car won't start at all or cut out since no information is getting to the ECU from the sensor. You should see this sensor ontop of the gearbox bellhousing " banana shaped bracket held on with 2 bolts with the sensor in the centre. One option you could try is to remove that and clean up the contact on the end of the sensor of any iron/metal filings which might be blocking the signal.and then refit. But if the sensor continues to be flagged up as a fualt code then you would be best to have it replaced. You should be able to aquire the sensor via the Renault dealer..
