My Ford Focus 1:8tdci hatchback...
My Ford Focus 1:8tdci hatchback, is cutting out when driving diagnostics are inconclusive.
Had crank senor replaced and injectors [supposedly] reset.

Car is not starting at the moment, really need to get it running and to get rid.

HELP!

Injectors are common rail, confirmed on recent works invoice.

Ok the most common cause of this is the crank sensor. But this has already been replaced.

 

What needs to happen now is a diagnostics check with real time display. This means driving the vehicle with the laptop plugged in so the technician can view the live data. Then when the fault occurs the technician can see whats going on.

 

The things he will be looking at are mainly the injectors and fuel pressure.

 

If there is a dramatic drop of pressure this will cause the engine to stop as not enough fuel will be supplied to the injectors. However finding the source of the pressure drop isnt easy, unless the real time display diagnostics are carried out.

 

The usual causes of a drop in fuel pressure are contaminated fuel filter ( i would replace this now), faulty injector/associated leak off pipes or the high pressure fuel pump/metering valve.

 

There is an out side chance that the fault is being caused by a software bug in the PCM (main computer). A re-calibration of the PCM would not go a miss. This has to be done using Ford diagnostics only.

Can you give me an estimate of costs, and can only ford do diagnostics?

Sorry for the delay, i wasnt available yesterday.

 

Its unlikely to be the starter motor. This is only activated when 'cranking' the engine. Then after the engine is running, the starter lies dormant.

 

It dosent have to be a Ford garage that carries out the diagnostics. However it will be advantages to do so. This is becuase the Ford diagnostics has full 'live' data available, as well as in depth fault code reading, software updates and the experience of the technician using the equipment - (probably the most important point!).

 

Jenning Ford of leeds will be the most experienced.
