Hi Pearl. We have a problem similar to this one: We tried to do as suggested. But it doesn't seem to work. The black looks completely clean.
JA: I'll do all I can to help. How long have you been dealing with this?
Customer: SInce last night - after a short power outage
JA: Have you tried power cycling the appliance -- unplugging it and leaving it off for a few hours?
Customer: No, not for that long. Do you think that will help?
JA: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?
Customer: My husband is currently 'in the Whirlpool" so I guess so:-)
JA: Anything else we should know to help you best?
Customer: We will try to leave it without power for a few hours. Thank you.

After powering the machine down and back up what is it doing now?

We have had it off the power for appr 15 hours. It is still doing the same. It beeps continuesly and the rinse botton blinks.

Unfortunately I believe you will need to replace the control board. Visually look at it and see if there are and burn marks. Since this occurred after a power outage this is what I am suspecting
