JA: Do you plan on doing the work yourself?
Customer: Yes if I can, but if beyond DIY I will have to consider an engineer, but then only if it's economical. Thanks
JA: Anything else we should know to help you best?

The rinse light flashing means a motor related fault.

Now this can be a number of things. The most common are the carbon brushes in the motor. As if they wear it stops the motor running and causes the rinse light to flash.

Other then the motor there are a few control boards in these Mieles so you need to inspect them and see if theres any blow marks on the board.

So first if you are looking at fixing this you need to open the front of the washer and from there you will see the back of the motor under the drum.

Remove the fitting on the back of the motor and you will see the carbon brushes in there. Inspect them and see if they have worn down. If they are just a few mm long then you need to replace them.

But if the brushes are fine then you need to check the control boards. There is a motor control board in there and this does fail often on these so if the brushes are fine then its possibley that board.

But basically for the error light you have flashing its reporting a fault on the motor circuit in there. So check that and see what you find. As if you are handy at electrical repairs theres a wiring diagram inside the washer on the front which gives the motor test points so if you have a multi meter you can test the motor for cononuity.
