I have a similar problem with my my NEF s5443x2gb/42.
Yesterday it tripped mid cycle and now it is tripping the RCD as soon as I close the door - even with cold rinse cycle selected.

Hi, welcome to Just Answer. My name is ***** ***** I look forward to helping you! If it trips right away, something is likely shorted directly to ground. Do you have a meter to test the various components with to test for a short?

It was about 18 hours since I asked the question, and since then I have traced the fault to the main circulation motor. How easy is it to remove and replace that motor?
Do I need any specific tools or other parts?

You won't need any special tools or any other parts, unless you find something amiss once you get into the machine.
