Hi, I have a front loader 6th sense washer and when you start a new programme, the door locks and pump sounds like it's working. After a few seconds the door light starts flashing and nothing happens. The drum doesn't spin and no water comes in. I have changed the brushes but this hasn't resolved the problem.

Ok lets try a test cycle and see what happens.

Turn the dial to drain cycle and then press the reset button 4 times

Then all the leds should light up and it will run a test cycle.

If it goes wrong the leds at the top will lit up to give the error code. Can you tell me which are lit up.

Hi, sorry but couldn't get it to do a test cycle. Put it on drain and pressed reset 4 times but only the spin/drain led came on. After about a minute the door locked led started to flash. All of the while there was a clicking noise.

Ok when the door lock light comes up is the door actually locked so you cannot open it?

Ok just tried again with the test cycle and it went through the cycle, the drum didn't spin, no water in or out and led didn't flash, it stayed on and then one minute after cycle completed led went out.

Ok I don't think it wash the test cycle as if it didn't fill or turn or lights flash or light up then it wasn't in test mode. As if it was and it didn't do a certain thing then it will give the error codes by the lights lighting up.

When you try and start a cycle will the door actually lock so you cannot open the door?

Hi yes the door locked led is on and the door is locked. When ever you try to do anything there is a clicking noise at the back of the facia, there is then like a deep grumbling noise. Then the door locked led flashes.

Ok when you get this fault were the door locks but it wont start and the door lock light flashes its a fault on the motor circuit.

As you have already replaced the brushes then we know its not them. What you need to do is check the wiring going to the motor. Give the wires a tug were they go into the plastic block and see if theres a broken wire in there.

If that's fine then you need a multi meter to test the motor. Remove the motor and with your meter you need to test between the 2 wires on the carbon brush and make sure you have continuity there.

If that's ok then go from one brush to the tags on the motor block and go across them until you get a reading between there and the carbon brush you are on. Then do the same to the other carbon brush.

Then at the back of the motor is the tacho. Follow the 2 wires to the motor block and again test them 2 for continuity and see what you find. If any are faulty then the motor will be the cause and needs to be replaced.

But if the motor and wiring check out ok then the fault will be the main

control board behind the plastic control panel on the front. As to be honest theres not much in these washers to cause the fault you have. Its either the motor, wiring or control board.

So if you are able to do the above then you should be able to find which part is at fault.

Ok thanks you, when we tested the 2 red tachometer wires there was no continuity

Ok if that's open circuit then im afraid the motor will need to be replaced as the tacho is part of the motor.

But a motor for these are very expensive. You are looking at about £160, whirlpool are very expensive for spare parts im afraid.
