I have a hotpoint WML540 which wont drain. It has a new drain…

I have a hotpoint WML540...

I have a hotpoint WML540 which won't drain. It has a new drain motor. The drain hose is clear and I have cleaned out the black rubber connecting pipe with the white ball inside. When the cycle gets to the stage where it should drain , there is a click and then all the lights flash, then nothing, no draining and no spinning. I have to manually coax the water out of the drain hose before opening the door. Any ideas?

Hiya,
When all the lights flash, look at the column of lights on the right.
Number them with 1 at the bottom.
Which numbers are lit?

Gosh I'm not in front of the machine right now, but from memory there is a red one at the bottom (1) and then the middle one (3) which are lit when the machine stops.. Does that make sense?

Hiya,
Yes, the 2 lights indicate a failure to drain.

If you select spin only, what happens?

Do you have, and can you use, a multimeter?

Hi again, thanks for getting back to me so quickly. If I put the machine on spin cycle, there is a click, then it starts to spin for a few seconds, then it winds down the spinning, there is a double click, the spinning stops and all the lights flash.

I can borrow a multimeter, and I know the basics of using one..

Hiya,
OK, thanks for that.

The main control board at the bottom rear would appear to be the cause of the problem.

You've fitted a new drain pump, I'd suggest checking the wiring from the pump back to the main board.
If it's ok, you'll need to have a new board fitted and then programmed to the machine. This requires special equipment to program it.

Check the wiring, see what you find and get back to me if you need more help.

Hi, thanks for your help, there are these control boards on ebay for £30, the guys say they are already programmed as they are used and from old machines, what do you think?

Get them to confirm by email that it works for your machine.
