Ok thanks for that not good news im afraid.
Normally when this happens its the control board at the back on the bottom which is at fault.
What you can try first is take off the back cover and there on the left is the control board. Take this out and then take 1 wiring block off at a time and refit it. This will make better contacts on the board.
Once youve done this retry the washer again and see if this is any better.
If still the same then its more then likley going to be a faulty control board. For this you will be best getting hotpoint in to repair on there fixed price repair which is about £105. This will be a lot cheaper then buying the board yourself as they will need to programe it anyway.
Or you can try and get a second hand board which should come refurbished and programmed from this web site http://www.emwelec.co.uk/
I have replaced many of these for this fault were all the lights just flash and wont start or anything.
