The humming is the water inlet valve trying to draw water into the wash compartment,,,
Check the inlet water supply and make sure no one has turned the water supply off underneath the sink etc,,,
If the valve is humming, it is working electrically, so it should be filling the machine with water. If it wont fill, then nothing is going to happen at all.
If the water tap is on, the valve is humming, but no water is coming in, then the only other thing you can do is undo and remove the water inlet hose and check the filter screen for blockages..
If this doesn't work, you have a faulty inlet valve and it will require replacing. It might be humming, meaning the electric solenoid is working, but if the valve wont open to allow water through, it means the spring and rubber discs inside the valve have worn out*
Quite common with dishwashers, as usually the water tap is left on 24/7 and they have to sit there holding back the town mains water pressure their entire life...
