My Zanussi tumble dryer is...

My Zanussi tumble dryer is heating and blowing air through the vent but does not tumble. It is c.5years old, is it worth repairing or is there a simple cause. I can spin the drum manually with the door open so it is not seized.

The belt is not broken but has come off the drum

Hiya,

OK, you need to refit it and try the machine again.

If it comes off, you'll need to take the side panels off to determine why it's running off.

Hi,

Model is a Zanussi Condenser dryer TC481W. The side and front panels appear to be on sheet of metal so I cannot access the side. I can see the motor mounting at the rear and the problem seems to be either a clip or spring must have broken as the motor can swivel on its mounting and create the slack on the belt. There is a spring on the left of the motor but I assume a cip has broken on the right?

Hiya,

The motor should be able to lift up and swivel over, it's pulled back down by a spring, this is how it tensions the belt.

If it's a wrap around cabinet then you need to get the belt on and see what is happening. (This is the older style and harder to work on machine).

You need to strip it down and take the rear panel off.

If the motor is twisting, then it's something that has snapped.

Hi,

The spring is holding the motor on the left but whatever should hold it on the right must have snapped. If I swivel the motor to the right the driveshaft and pulley wheel create tension on the belt and turns the drum, as soon as I let it go the spring pulls it down to the left creating the slack. I assume there must have been a clip on the right which I cannot access to see. As you say, not the easiest machine to work on, I think retirement beckons.
