I have a hotpoint aquarius WML540 - the door will not open…

I have a hotpoint aquarius...

I have a hotpoint aquarius WML540 - the door will not open although indicator says its is unlocked. I have tried 3 cycles now to see if it will correct but it hasn't. Removed the bottom panel an dpulled down on the manuel release whilst attempting to open the door as the instructions suggest but this is not working either. Would really appreciate some assistance!!

Hiya,

Unplug the appliance.

Wait 10 minutes, try the manual release again while the machine is unplugged.

If that doesn't work, take the top off.

Reach down inside to the door lock.

Try opening it manually.

Let me know what you find.

Its just in the middle of a rinse cycle so will try when its finished

undone 2 screws at the back but cant get it off at the front, will there be more screws at the front or should it just lift off?

Hiya,

2 screws at the rear.

Then, smack the front corners with your palms to move it rearward.

It then lifts off.

Top off and can see what seems to be pulled down if using the manuel tab at the bottom. So i am pressing down ans trying to open door but nothing happening. There does not to be any sort of tension / friction in the handle

Hiya,

OK, it's very strange that it's not opening.

You are manually opening the lock when you push the lock part down.

Unfortunately, it's all pointing to a broken door lock, where the remote and handle don't actually move the lock.

See if you can find the end of the door latch pin poking through.

If you do, push it over toward the door.

See if it opens.

ok I'll go and try that. What do you mean by pointing to a broken door lock? can this be remedied? Also I obviously have clothes stuck inside!!

Hiya,

As the door handle, the remove opening tab and manually working the lock aren't releasing the door, it can only mean that the lock is broken internally and isn't releasing the door latch pin.

Can't locate a door pin :-( Is it worth calling someone out from hotpoint or can it not be fixed?

It can certainly be fixed.

I had hoped to get the door open but it looks like the lock is at fault, preventing the door opening.

Try pull the door open while you pull down on the tab.

Hiya,

Sorry, good luck with the engineer visit.

If you are desperate to get the clothes out of the machine, you'll need to lever the door open.

Protect the paintwork, insert a screwdriver between the door and casing where the lock is and lever it open.

Try not to damage the door.

At worst, you many need a new door latch too.
