With reference to a Whirlpool...

With reference to a Whirlpool washing machine AA 1000 spin AWM 5104/4.
The machine has operated perfectly for many years. It suddenly stopped mid cycle, it was carrying a rather heavy load at the time, it stopped just before the spin dry. the "active" light does not light up now. there is current to the machine - fuse is OK in plug.
The only sign of life is that the programme dial will move a small amount after being put on a setting.

Is there a cut-out if the load is too heavy ? does the failkure of the "active" light cut the current to the programmer.
Any assistance appreciated.

If you start a wash cycle will the door lock?

yes the door locks normally and unlocks after the programme it spun around to the end in the normal way

Ok if the door locks but isnt starting then its possibley the carbon brushes in the motor. As if these are worn down it will cause this problem.

Pull the washer out and remove the motor. At the back either side you will see the carbon brushes. Take them out and inspect them. If they have worn down then they will need to be replaced.

Then retry the washer and see what happens. Fingers crossed this will cure the problem here.

Ok interesting suggestion but does that also explain the 'active' light not illuminating when the machine is switched on and the water fill not operating when any programme is selected ?

Yes this will cause the washer not to fill with water and can also cause the active light aswell.

Just check them out and see what you find.
