There is sludge coming into the machine during washing causing…

OK, Hotpoint don't have a model WT7616, the nearest I can find is WT761g.

The gunge is undissolved soap, conditioner and body fats (comes out of the clothes when they are washed).

You'll need to do some fairly aggressive cleaning of the appliance to get rid of the gunge.

First, with nothing in the machine, run it on it's hottest wash.

This will dissolve quite a lot of the undissolved soaps and body fats.

Let it run all the way through.

Next, run another hot wash with nothing in it, cancel when it empties the wash water.

You'll need to run 2 or 3 of these to clear out as much gunge as possible before using a cleaning product.

After this, obtain and use a washing machine cleaning product.

Follow the instructions for the product.

Each time you run the cleaning product through the machine, it will clean up a bit more.

When you use the machine, dry the door seal when you finish.

Leave the door slightly ajar.

This will help prevent the bacteria growing and causing a smell.

Once it's cleaned up, use the cleaner on a regular basis to keep it clean.

It's a lot of work and takes time to do properly.
