I have a Hotpoint WM77...

I have a Hotpoint WM77 (1200 Spin) washing machine that has finished it's wash cycle but the door will not unlock. I have tried switching off at the mains, selecting the final spin cycle of other wash programs without success. Is there a manual overide that I can use to release the door?

The door is released with a button which operates a mecahnical latch and all is in good order, the button does not depress sufficiently to operate the latch

OK, thanks for that.

Unfortunately that doesn't tie up with the model number.

The parts list and the user manual both show the machine to have a door handle and electric lock.

Is the push button a square shaped block?

Has the machine stopped with water in it?

Can you check the model number please?

It is definitely a button! It is not square shaped more of an oval. The cycle finished satisfactorily, there is no water in the drum. The model number on the front of the machine is Hotpoint WM 77 1200 Spin

Sorry, the only oval button shown for that model number is XXXXX on/off button on the front right of the facia.

Unfortunately, what you are describing doesn't match my experience of the model number nor the service information.

The WM77 has a handle according to Hotpoint.

This machine was already in the property when I moved in so I don't know it's history but it is unlikely that a non specific door was fitted to it, isn't it? If it were a model with a handle on the door is there a mechanical override or routine that would release the door lock without the necessity to gain access to it from above by removal of the top panel?

Sorry, I've nothing to reference to.

The number you have posted doesn't match the service information for the machine.

However, the top would have to come off to access the door lock from inside, regardless of the model.

OK, I've come across a document for another version of the appliance.

Instead of a handle, it has a button on the front of the door.

(It doesn't show the machine, just the button as a spare part).

Is this the machine you have?

If it is, there are 2 things you can try.

Feed some string or flexible wire into the gap around the door.

Work it round so you end up with both ends opposite the button side of the door.

Pull sideways on the wire and pull the door open with your other hand.

This will work if the assembly inside the door has broken.

The other is to unplug the machine, take the top off, reach down inside the front and find the door lock.

The latch pin will be just poking through.

Push this over toward the door and it should open.

Watch for sharp edges when doing this.

After your 4th response where you were convinced that the machine that I had was in some way not as marketed, I resorted to the only resolution that I knew which was to remove the top panel and reach inside to operate the lock manually. This I did and have unloaded the machine. I have since run a test cycle to see if the problen repeated and it this time it worked correctly. If you had advised initially what you stated in your last response I would have considered myself assisted but in this instance I don't feel that you helped me. If Paypal charge me the £11 as I agreed to, I would have to contact them to ask for a refund.
