E40 refers to a fault in the door lock circuit.
Both the door lock and the main control board can be at fault.
You would need to obtain and fit a new door lock to see if it cures the fault.
If not, a new control board would be required.
It's not uncommon for the door lock to fail and damage the control board when it does.
Unplug the appliance.
Take the top off.
Take the main board out, located front right, hanging down into the wiring.
Open the casing of it and see if there's any obvious damage.
(The lack of obvious damage doesn't mean the board is ok, it would only confirm failure).
Check it out, see what you find and get back to me if you need more help.
