There are 3 things that can cause this.
The door lock, the wiring or the main control board.
Can you post the actual model number of the appliance please?
It should be on a label in the door recess.

OK, thanks for that.
E51 indicates a fault with the motor circuit, particularly with the main control board.
The lock problem can be the lock or the main board too.
It's an expensive repair I'm afraid.
Check for a quote at www.repaircare.co.uk
Their price includes parts and labour and is normally cheaper than buying the parts and repairing yourself.
Once you have the price, you'll be better placed to decide on repair or replace.
