The most likely cause of the problem is the selector switch.
Unplug the appliance.
Take the top off.
Use a switch cleaner to spray the switch, while you rotate the knob.
Allow the cleaner to dry out.
Try the machine again.
If still the same or even worse, you'll need to replace the selector switch.
Try it out, see what you find and get back to me if you need more assistance.
