Hello I have a Zanussi...

Hello I have a Zanussi essential ZWD16270W which seems to have developed some kind of electrical fault stemming from an attempt to run the tumble dry prog on its own. When I tried to dry clothes it went through the program but without any heat. However subsequently when I run a wash program it doesn't spin properly so the clothes are sopping wet but it runs part of the dry prog - and becomes a mini sauna as the heat does seem to work in this mode.

I am now trying to spin the wet clothes but can't get this function to work. It looks like the program will run but after a few seconds it clicks off and the light flashes.

Do you have any ideas?

Press and hold together, the start button and the button to the left of it.

You should have an error code displayed.

Ed4 and E72 - it went between these

Hiya,

OK, thanks for that.

ED4 indicates a fault in the dryer board.

E72 indicates a fault with the dryer condenser sensor, ignore this for the moment.

It may be a spurious fault generated by the element.

ED4 is listed as a dryer pcb or main pcb failure.

In most cases, I've found it's actually a problem with the dryer heater.

Unplug the appliance.

Take the top off.

You'll find the dryer heater assembly on top of the top.

At the rear of the dryer box is the connections for the element.

Make a note of the wiring, label the wires according to their connections.

Push the tub down and forward.

Pull the wires off of the element.

Insulate the wires with insulating tape.

Tie them back out of the way.

Refit the top and try the machine on a wash.

If the element is the cause, the machine should wash ok.

If it does, you need to obtain and fit a new dryer element to see if the fault goes.

You'll be able to use it as a washing machine in the meantime, obviously the dryer won't work.

It's on top of the tub.

At the rear of it you should see the element connections.
