I have a Hotpoint Aquarius...

I have a Hotpoint Aquarius WML540 and lately have noticed that my washing smells sour and a bit sweaty after it has been in the drawer for a couple of days, I wondered if the machine is not rinsing properly, also I noticed that after washing a pair of cream coloured trousers and top that there was a browny coloured sludge left on my clothes, I have done a maintenance wash but it seems no different. The clothes smell fine as I hang them out to dry but its after they have been put away that the smell is there, so it must be something that is left after coming from the machine!!

yeah there is a bit of gunge under there but I tried to clean it the other day, but more seems to have built up!!

Hiya,

OK, if you've got gunge there, the entire outer tub will be coated in it.

You started off correctly, do another wash at the hottest temperature with nothing in the machine.

Obtain and use a descaler/cleaner specially made for this.

Click here for a suitable product.

You may have to do this 2 or 3 times to get it cleaned up initially.

Once cleaned, do a monthly maintenance wash with the cleaner to keep the machine clean.

The problem you have is a build up of undisolved soaps and body fats from the laundry.

The musty/stale smell is caused by the bacteria that breeds in it.

When you finish using the machine, dry off the door seal and leave the door ajar.

This helps prevent the bacterial growth.

Sorry not to get back to you as yet, but wanted to do a maintenance wash before I got back to you, have done this and changed to a powder instead of liquid. Seems ok, washing seems to smell right but I have a problem with it when it has been in the drawer for a couple of days. Will see how it turns out this week!! Also, how do I get to clean the dispenser drawer, I cant see that it comes out completely for me to wash it in the sink, bad design I think! Is there a way to get it out completely?

Thanks for that Fred, have now managed to clean out the drawer, not much gungy stuff in there though, What do I do now? Do I accept your answer and how much is it gonna cost me all together?

Hiya,

You need to continue with the clean up of the tub.

You need to do the maintenance washes with a suitable cleaner (either the one I linked you to or one you can get locally).

After that, you need to do a regular maintenance wash to keep it clean.

We do our own one monthly.
