Pressing the P button doesn't cycle through the different wash programmes and the machine doesn't start. I haven't checked whether the drain hose from the machine to the drain pipe is kinked but I don't think that this should have an effect on the ability to select a programme.Answer Summary

If that is the case then we can deduce that the dishwasher is probably failing on no heat.
To confirm that you can check the heater element with a multimeter to see if it has gone open circuit.
