How is the waste hose connected to the drain? ie is it in a stand pipe or connected to the pipework under the sink?

The smell is partly from undissolved powder and the smell of bacteria build up.
Because we use lower temperatures now, the machine can smell as the bacteria builds.
Open the fold of the door seal and wipe away any gray sludge.
Set the machine to the long hot cotton wash. Add a cup of bleach, no powder. Let it wash through with no clothes.
Always leave the door ajar when not in use.
You will need to do this periodically. It has taken a while for this to build up and may take a while of "cleaning" washes to get rid of it completely.
