my washing machine starts but...

my washing machine starts but the drum doesnt spin i've checked the belt and thats fine the drum spins by hand as does the motor but it wont spin on its own

Hiya,

What happens when you try to use the appliance?

Does the door lock?

Does it fill with water?

Does the drum turn?

Does the machine pump the water out?

The more detail you can give the better.

it does all all of them except turn the drum. and u can here the elecronics workin but it won t turn the drum. the belts fine and the motor wil turn by hand.

Hiya,

The most likely cause of this is worn carbons in the motor.

It can also be the motor istelf and/or the pcb but check the motor brushes first.

Unplug the appliance and take the rear cover off.

Check the wiring to the motor plug and repair any broken wires.

If ok, take the motor plug out, take the bolts holding the motor in place out and take the motor out of the appliance.

Check the carbon brushes in the motor, if worn or broken you'll need to replace them.

If the carbons are ok then the fault will lie with the motor and/or the pcb.
