Hi I have a slimline Whirlpool DWF 417, which worked fine until about four weeks ago. Now, however, it gets stuck. After starting any program it'll stop and give start beeping. This will then repeat and repeat and repeat endlessly unless I switch it off.

Initially I was able to make it work by switching cycle—it would get to almost the end of a cycle but then you'd have to use the rinse cycle to empty it. Now it's not working at all, just beeping and beeping. What is going on? Is there any way to bring it back to life?

When it's beeping the start light will be flashing.

Count the flashes between pause and let me know the result.

hi, it's just blinking continously without pause. It's like the program tries to start but after 10-15 sec it doesn't manage to get the water and it starts beeping.

Hiya,

Take the bottom basket and the filters out.

Remove the water in the sump with a sponge.

Pour a kettle of boiling water into the sump and try running a new programme.

Let me know what happens.

There are 3 versions of your appliance.

Can you post the 12 digit number beginning 85?

Prefix the number with A to prevent it being crossed out when posted.

OK, thanks for that.

The error code is slightly different on your appliance.

You should have 5 leds for the programmes.

Is it one of these leds flashing?

If so, number them with 1 on the left and let me know which number is XXXXX

The led that is flashing is the one for the programme I had chosen to run. So, I have tried to run programme number 3 (eco) and led number 3 is the one that's flashing. But if I tried to run programme number 2 (rapid cycle) it would be the corresponding led that flashes. Hope this makes sense

Hiya,

OK, thanks for that.

The procedure to get it into test mode and obtain the error code isn't easy.

Make sure the dishwasher is empty of water.

Open the door and keep pushing on the P button for 30 seconds until all leds are on.

Within 3 seconds of coming on, let go of the P button and press and release once more.

If all has gone correctly led 5 will be flashing.

Close the door and the test programme should now run.

If the machine detects an error it will flash one or more of the leds.

Let me know the number of the leds flashing (1 is on the left).

OK, I have finally managed to get the test programme running. Leds 4 and 5 are the ones flashing, don't know whether it means it is an error?

Hmm, OK. I am not sure it washed through a whole programme—it seemed to be pretty quick before it went completely quiet, but it certainly did fill with water and 'do' something, as the dishes are warm. Leds 4 and 5 are flashing now that it has ended.

Hiya,

4 and 5 flashing normally indicate a reset of the appliance.

Switch the appliance off. Wait 5 minutes and switch it on again.

Hopefully this will reset the electronics.

Try the machine again.

Hi, no joy. I did as you said, then restarted it and tried to run a programme, but it is doing the beeping thing again. It starts, seemingly OK) then, less than a minute into the programme, it gets into this cycle of beeping, starting, beeping, starting, as it was doing before. Is it hopeless?

I'm sorry, but being unable to retrieve an error code it's really anyones guess as to the fault.

I can only suggest trying the test programme again, ensure all lights are lit, and see if will give a code.

I'll opt out of the question and open it to all experts again, just in case someone has an idea I've not come up with.
