How can I fix my...

How can I fix my hoover hnl 7166 washer dryer?
When I start the program, the water starts to come into the machine at a good pressure, but the valve shuts off before the level is reached to commence with the wash. If I continually switch off and on to get enough water into the drum it will commence with the wash cycle but stops again when the rinse cycle is reached. Help!!!

When you try to use it and it stops, are you getting any flashing lights?

If you are, count the number of flashes between pauses and post the result here.

I tried it out on the normal every day wash and No flashing lights, I will try it out on all the other programs to see what happens.

Hiya,

It's ok, if the machine is partially filling then stopping and there are no flashing lights, it's going to do this on all programmes.

What happens, exactly, when you try to use it?

It begins filling then?

When I start the program, I close the door, set the program on the dial, the stop light begins to flash, I press the start button and the door lock light comes on and the door lock engages, the water starts to come into the machine at a good pressure, and I can see it coming into the drawer, and feel it flowing through the inlet pipe, but the valve shuts off before the level is reached to commence with the wash, the machine is then silent and no lights are flashing, the only lights left on at this stage is the 30min wash cycle light and the door locked light.

I have the top and back off the machine and can see inside.

Hiya,

OK, thanks for that.

Unplug the appliance and take the top off.

Locate the pressure switch and disconnect the thin tube attached to it.

Secure this so it doesn't fall down to the bottom.

Now start the machine on a wash, if the water level comes up to the door, switch off.

Let me know what happens. Do not let the machine fill up and overflow please.

I tried turning off the machine again, and starting the same program, the machine did not start, but all lights are now on a continues flash.

Reconnect the pressure pipe.

I'll have to see if I have a service manual for this appliance when I get in the office tomorrow.

I can use one but I don't have one at home, I could do with one though, so it looks like a trip to B&Q, thanks for the help so far, talk to you tomorrow.

Hiya,

Unplug the appliance and take the top off of the machine.

Fit your multimeter leads to the cold water inlet valve terminals (just push the probes into the insulated part until they make contact with the terminal.

Set the multimeter to AC volts and set it somewhere safe.

Plug the machine back in and watch the voltage reading as it fills.

When it stops does the voltage remain at 240 volts or does it drop off to 0?

Hi,

Started the cycle with both probes in place, the AC reading was 237 volts, when the machine stopped the volts dropped back to 0.

Hiya,

OK, thanks for that.

I hate to say this but it's beginning to look like there may be a fault with the main control board.

As we had the pressure switch disconnected last time and it still stopped filling it pretty well rules out the pressure switch as being part of the problem.

The inlet valve works so it has to be back to the control board.

On your appliance, there should be 2 cold inlet valves, is there a hot inlet valve?

If there is, empty the machine.

Put the probes onto the hot valve and try the machine again.

Let me know what happens.

Hiya,

I hate to say this, It's got me beat.

At this point I'd be trying a new control board but the cost of you doing this is prohibitive.

If the machine is less than 5 years old it would probably be more prudent to pay Hoover for the labour and have the parts replaced under warranty.

Sorry, I've no idea why your machine is doing this.
