My Creda Reversair Tumble Dryer, model number 37742, has a couple of issues: 1, It squeeks when the drum turns one way, however this stops after a couple of minutes (is there a future problem brewing) 2, When the drum is supposed to stop then reverse, the drum does not actually stop but the motor commences the reverse cycle, resulting in an electrical 'wind down' noise before commencing turning in the reverse direction. Are these faults repairable by a reasonably competant electrical DIYer?(I can use an AVO meter and soldoring iron for example).Mark in Crewe.Answer Summary

The squeek is common on these appliances.
It can come from belt tensioners (most common), plastic bearings or from the rear metal and composite bearing.
To cure it, you need to strip the appliance down, take the drum out, grease everything up and rebuild it. After a while it will start squeeking again.
The reversing is done by the timer so it would suggest that the timer may have internally burned contacts.
There isn't a lot you can do with the timer. If you are really keen you can make a wiring diagram of the timer (be accurate and take photographs), take the timer out and take it apart. (Used to do this in the old days with washing machine programmers).
Once apart you can try and repair/clean up the contacts.
Failing that, the fault you have would suggest a new timer is required, it would however be on a "fit and see what happens" basis. There could be a fault in the wiring loom causing the problem but this would be an unusual one.
