If the washing machine smells and your laundry has a musty smell then it's likely to be build up of undisolved detergent, body fats and bacteria causing it.
Run the machine on a boil wash with nothing in it, no clothes, no detergent.
Do this twice.
Then run it again with something like 1/2 cup of soda crystals in it.
Once you've run these, for the rest of the 1st week run a daily boil wash with 1/2 cup of soda crystals (or similar).
When the machine is not in use, keep the door or lid open slightly to stop the bacteria growing and multiplying.
Once cleaned up, do a monthy maintenance wash, boil wash with 1/2 cup soda crystals.
You should also check your drainage system for a build up of sludge and deal with this in a similar manner.
