I have a Zanussi ZWF 1437 washing machine. We have checked the drainage pipe and that appears to be clear and the machine drains the water away without any problems. We have cleaned the filter but the machine still smells of dirty water.Answer Summary
Hiya,Open the door of the machine and peel the door seal back a little from the inner drum, run a cloth around the bottom, is it covered in a grey gunk?Put a soda crystal diluition into the appliance and run it on the hottest wash.(1/2 cup soda crytals is fine).No laundry in, no soap powder. When not in use, keep the door slightly open. Make sure the drain hose goes higher than the drain point to prevent drain water back syphoning into the machine.

OK, thanks for that.
I'm afraid the gunk goes a lot deeper than this.
The outer tub will be coated in the gunk and it is this that is smelling.
Put a soda crystal diluition into the appliance and run it on the hottest wash.
(1/2 cup soda crytals is fine).
No laundry in, no soap powder.
Let the machine run through it's programme.
Repeat this several times over the next week to get rid of the build up of undisolved soaps and body fats.
Once cleaned up, run this maintenance wash on a monthly basis to keep it clean.
When not in use, keep the door slightly open. This will stop bacteria building up and causing the smelll again.
Make sure the drain hose goes higher than the drain point to prevent drain water back syphoning into the machine.
You may be able to find the new Washing machine cleaner (similar to a dishwasher cleaner) in the supermarkets. It might be worth using one of these too.
