I have a Zanussi ZWF 1421W washing machine. It has stopped working. All the lights on the front are on and it emits a continuous beep. Any idea what the problem is and how to solve it?

When the problem first occurred all the lights on the front of the machine came on and it beeped, but it continued to run until the end of the wash. The next time, the wash stopped half way through with water still in the drum. We were able to open the door to remove the washing and drained the machine through the plug hole at the bottom. Since then we have been able to get the machine to run. As soon as it is plugged in, all the lights come on and it emits a beep.

Thanks for that what we need to do now is get the error code out of the machine

to do that turn selector knob off then hold start/pause button and the one next to it on the left .with them pressed in turn selector knob 1 postion clockwise and keep hold of buttons for about 5 seconds till all lights start flashing then release. then turn knob to the 10th postion and count how many times start/pause light flash and end light flash. if you could let me know . then turn knob off then on then back off again

This is tricky as the washing machine is at my girlfriend's flat 1 mile away, and there is no internet connection there. I've relayed the instructions over the phone, and what appears to happen is that, at the stage of turning the selector knob 1 position clockwise, all the lights come on and the machine beeps. It then stays like this.
I will print out your instructions and go over there and check for myself. I probably won't be able to send you more details until tomorrow morning as we are going out tonight.

OK, it looks like:
Start / Pause flashes 3 times
End flashes 8 times (the first three flashes are at the same time as the Start / Pause light, then 5 more flashes).
It wasn't quite as simple as described. The machine kept all its lights on when I followed your instructions, but I tried pressing the start/pause button and the one on the RIGHT of it, and then turned the selector knob 1 turn clockwise, and that seemed to reset the machine. I then went back and followed your instructions from the start and got the above response. I did this three times and got the same answer each time.

Thanks for that E83 means error in reading selector. Which basically means the main pcb is at fault. this needs to be replaced. Thats probably why you had trouble getting the code out. unfortunaly it is an expensive repair. hope this has helped you.
