You do have the cables correct here- the aerial to the STB and one HDMI from the STB to the monitor. What exactly are you seeing on your screen right now?

Ask Your Own TV Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
Nothing

Option come up when I hit the menu button

TV Technician: Aric, Technician replied 4 months ago

Nothing. Okay on the original TV remote, do you see a button labeled Input, Source, or TV/Video? If so, have you used that to select the correct INPUT on the TV?

I'm not sending that offer- simply close it out and ignore it. Read my replies on this page.

No I don't see those buttons
TV Technician: Aric, Technician replied 4 months ago

There should be a button on the ORIGINAL NEC remote that allows you to change Inputs- which is what you need to do. More specifically you need to change it to the HDMI Input in order to view the cable box. This is an older set and I have no related manual. Please tell me what the buttons are starting at the top left of the remote and working your way left to right and down the remote?

Ask Your Own TV Question
TV Technician: Aric, Technician replied 4 months ago

Actually I just found the manual- please standby.

Use the Video button and let me know if you're able to change to the HDMI video input.

Hmmmm, not seeing HDMI anywhere on this monitor. How exactly do you have the STB connected to this unit??

Ask Your Own TV Question
TV Technician: Aric, Technician replied 4 months ago

The monitor doesn't even have an HDMI jack..... are you sure you have an HDMI cable connected from the STB to the monitor?

You can't use HDMI on this monitor, so I need to know what other connections are available on the cable box.

Your monitor does not have HDMI but it has DVI which is the same exept for the audio part which is separate in DVI connection and you will see 2 RCA type audio inputs next to that DVVI jack

What you need is one of these HDMI to DVI cable ; https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Black-HDMI-Male-to-DVI-D-Male-Adapter-Cable-Projector-Digital-TV-Laptops-Cable/202290891324?hash=item2f197a0a3c:m:mYeia6FjQZ5iYJff4GQLZ5w

Along with a RCA type stereo cable used with audio equipment

You should be able to find those locally at electronic equipment reseller stores or computer stores as well

If that answers your question PLEASE DO TAKE THE TIME TO RATE by clicking on the star icons at the top of your page, then click on Submit , it doesn`t cost you anything more and I get paid for my time helping you .

TV Technician: Jack, Technician replied 4 months ago

By the way , you are probably over resolution here with that old monitor

Try to reboot whatever device is connected to it by pulling out its power cord 30 secs so that it may detect and adjust its resolution

Other option would be to use component cables that are sure to work if your device has such outputs and if not then a HDMI to component (not to be confused with composite) converter if your device has not such outputs

Ask Your Own TV Question
TV Technician: Jack, Technician replied 4 months ago

For that matter reboot the tv as well if that doesn`t work the first time

Hi I've finally got a picture and tunned I did this by using set top box remote not the plasma remote. But I can't get any sound
TV Technician: Jack, Technician replied 4 months ago

Did you run a separate set of audio cables as I said ??

This DVI connection does not carry sound and there are audio input terminals next to it

By the way , if you used the cable box remote to get a picture then that is because the cable box was not sending anything

Ask Your Own TV Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
No I have no audio cables
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
Oh thats the red yellow and white cables
TV Technician: Jack, Technician replied 4 months ago

Then that is what you need

Your STB should have analog left/right audio outs , run a set of wire and you`re done

If that answers your question PLEASE DO TAKE THE TIME TO RATE by clicking on the star icons at the top of your page, then click on Submit , it doesn`t cost you anything more and I get paid for my time helping you .

TV Technician: Jack, Technician replied 4 months ago

This is what I said in my first reply ;

Your monitor does not have HDMI but it has DVI which is the same except for the audio part which is separate in DVI connection and you will see 2 RCA type audio inputs next to that DVI jack

Dfid thast but still no sound
TV Technician: Jack, Technician replied 4 months ago

Got the volume up ?

Turn everything off and back on and also make sure it says OUT at the STB audio terminals

Ask Your Own TV Question
TV Technician: Jack, Technician replied 4 months ago

If that tv is working correctly then that is how it should be wired

If the tv has a sound problem then get yourself a cheap sound bar and connect it directly into the STB

By the way , this monitor uses external speakers yes ?

Do you have them ?

Ask Your Own TV Question
Customer reply replied 4 months ago
Turned everything off and on but still no sound
TV Technician: Jack, Technician replied 4 months ago

this monitor uses external speakers

Do you have them ?

Ask Your Own TV Question
TV Technician: Jack, Technician replied 4 months ago

If not then get some regular speakers and connect them to the speakers terminals at the rear or get a sound bar connected at the STB

Customer reply replied 4 months ago
Will get a speaker tomorrow.
