JA: What's the make and model of your tv, and has turning it on been a problem in the past?

Customer: Tv shows just black screen
JA: How long has this been an issue? What happened right before this popped up?
Customer: Right now. I've been gone a month. Just got home. Turned tv in w/remote. Light switched to white & thats it

Thank you- yes I'm here it takes time to type. Offhand these symptoms aren't uncommon when the set gets on in years, and it's a common "Mainboard" issue with the Vizio we see often. In many cases this requires repairs made to the set.

However it's worth it to try a hard reset, as sometimes the processor in the TV can simply have locked up.

The first thing you would try, is disconnect the set from power, then press and hold the power button on the TV itself (not the remote), for 10 seconds and release. Then plug the set back in, and also check that the power cord is connected tight at the TV as well. Press power once, and see if the set powers up normally. Try this procedure up to 2 times, and please let me know what happens.

That didn't work. Vizio still shows white like on, but, zip.

Okay that's not good news. So did the screen of the TV light up at all- or does it appear pitch black as if the set were off?

If you're still having the same problem, then unfortunately this indicates the set's Mainboard has failed and needs to be replaced. This is a "plug and play" part- meaning no soldering or special tools are needed to replace it. Only a screwdriver and about a half hour of your time. That part can be purchased for your set at the link below for $25:
