Customer Question

JA: What's the make and model of your tv, and can you guesstimate how old it is?
Customer: I sent you the model no.' it is a Samsung 55 inch from Costco
JA: Does the TV menu work? Do you have the same problem on all sources/inputs?
Customer: yes the menu works and the picture is the same on all channels.
JA: How long has this been an issue? What happened right before this popped up?
Customer: We just bought it yesterday and started setting it up.
JA: Is there anything else the TV Technician should be aware of?
Customer: no everything else seems to be ok.

Are you seeing black bars on the top/bottom or sides of the screen?

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
No, we have 4 5/8 gray bars on each side of picture. 16:9 picture

Thank you for confirming,

This problem with the picture size could be coming from either the tv OR the dish box but the dish signal is most likely

Grab the cable box remote and look for a button that says ZOOM, ASPECT, WIDE, RATIO, SIZE, FORMAT, * OR # etc. Most dish boxes use the * button for this purpose.

You may need to press this several times to cycle through the different options,

and you may have to make a similar adjustment on the tv as well, until you get them both to a desired setting

typically you'd want the cable box set on 16:9 or Wide

and you'd want the tv set on Normal or 16:9

It can take a bit of fiddling to get them both matched up, but you should have a button for this function on both the tv remote and on the box remote, and will have to use both.

Let me know if that works for you.
