JA: What's the model number of your TV? How old is it?
Customer: About a year ago.
JA: Does the TV menu work? Do you have the same problem on all sources/inputs?
Customer: E500i-B1 model
JA: How long has this been an issue? What happened right before this popped up?
Customer: the problem is that the light goes on but then goes off.

I am currently working with vizio to get a repair or replacement under warranty, with the help of Mike G's report. It is slow-going, but should be enough, and another assessment is unnecessary, I think..
It appears to me that there is something very wrong with vizio's power-supply.
