Not being able to get to the back of the tv isn't a good thing, especially when trying to connect a new device like a dvd player! Can you try again to get the tv model number? maybe you have a user guide for the tv, should have a model number on the front of that...
Also what is the part number or model number or link to the product you are describing as "an adapter to convert the HDMI to analog"?
